ONR SD40-2 1737 (GMD, January 1974) and GP9 1601 (GMD, July 1956) sit outside the ONR North Bay shops, their worn paint showing the financial troubles of their owner.
1737 shows some unique ONR details. Behind the last stanchion of the long hood conductor's side handrail are air filters, protected by sheet metal on the other side. Also, the rear headlight is different - like the CN units it was based on it has a single white rear headlight, but unlike the CN units it includes a separate red light in its own housing. The usual meaning of a red light is an end-of-train marker. Perhaps the ONR thought these units would be used as rear pushers? They never filled this role, however.
Both units are still in service Sept 2008.
